Meet the Steve Jobs of the Paranormal Urban Fantasy Industry

Steve Jobs changed our culture with his decision-making. Love his ideas or not, his philosophies drove innovation in a way that has forever altered the way we use technology.

If you’re looking for the Steve Jobs equivalent in the Paranormal Urban Fantasy industry, don’t bother looking in Publisher’s Weekly or the Fantasy bestseller lists. If you read the genre, look no further than the end of your own nose.

The true driver of innovation in the Paranormal Urban Fantasy genre is the reader.

Consider the following quotes of Steve Jobs himself:

Quote 1: “An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator… these are NOT three separate devices! And we are calling it iPhone!”

Paranormal Urban Fantasy readers know that genre rules were meant to be broken. In my novel The Arrow (Children of Brigid Trilogy Book 1) strong female protagonist Fynn Kildares falls in love while saving the world from a corporate conspiracy while solving the mystery of what kind of supernatural evil is attacking her family. The limits of genre don’t apply to the reader, and so they don’t have to apply to the world of my characters either. A book can be a romance, a thriller, a fantasy and a family epic all in one novel or series of novels.

Quote #2: “If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

The authors of Paranormal Urban Fantasy have loyal readers that know what they want in a story. Readers insist on high quality writing, hot romance, killer action and adventure, and most of all magic. They want magic in the prose, in the plot and on every page. When they find an author or series they love, they’re with the characters till the end.

Quote #3: “I’m an optimist in the sense that I believe humans are noble and honorable, and some of them are really smart.”

The Paranormal Urban Fantasy reader craves heroes along the lines of the ancient archetypes. Their main characters are often not human in the strict sense of the word, but they do kick butt, fall in love, and overcome demons, both personal and real. These readers are fans of some of the strongest female protagonists in literature, believing that intelligence and power can be sexy and entertaining.

Without the reader, there would be no Paranormal Urban Fantasy. As an author, I bow to you as I’ve created the Children of Brigid Trilogy for everything you love in the genre.
